MISSION STATEMENT

The Fox Chase Cancer Center Pain Management Center is an interdisciplinary program whose mission is to optimize the relief of pain in cancer patients through consultation, direct care, education, and research. The PMC interdisciplinary team consists of a medical oncologist, an anesthesiologist, nurses and a social worker. PMC believes pain relief is an integral part of comprehensive cancer care. Pain relief requires individualized treatment of Total Pain: physical pain, psychological pain, social pain, spiritual pain and financial pain. Comprehensive pain therapy is achieved through the effective interplay of innovative pharmacologic tailoring, drug delivery systems, neurolytic techniques and behavioral therapies. Total pain relief requires collaboration between the patient and their support system, other health care providers and the PMC team. Optimal pain relief facilitates patients’ coping with their cancer and enhances their quality of life.
