Communication Training for Oncology Nurses: Improving Patient- Centered  Communication & Cancer Care

Using the evidence-based COMFORT TM SM Communication Curriculum, this interactive 2-day course will include communication skills-building sessions and provide participants with a communication toolkit that includes a copy of the curriculum, books, USB of video examples with teaching guide, and additional resources. Using a goal-directed method of teaching, faculty will help teams develop three goals for implementing process improvement related to communication. Competitively selected oncology nurse teams from (2 participants per team) will be selected and the curriculum is appropriate for any level of learner (CEUs will be offered).

Train-the-Trainer Conference: Preparing California-Based Palliative Care Teams in Communication Education Skills

Organized by the domains of the National Consensus Project (NCP) guidelines for quality palliative care, this interactive 2-day course will provide participants with tools to teach other healthcare professionals communication skills. The course includes communication skills-building sessions and provides participants with a communication toolkit that includes a copy of the curriculum, books, and additional resources. Using a goal-directed method of teaching, faculty will help teams develop three goals for teaching other health care professionals palliative care communication skills. Interprofessional hospital-based palliative care teams (2 participants per team) will be competitively selected and the curriculum is appropriate for any level of learner (13 CMEs & CEUs will be offered).
